Janis Crawley

The Type B Board of Directors along with staff representation from North Central Texas College and the North Texas Workforce Commission recently was named the winner in category under 15,000 population as the 2018 Workforce Excellence Award for their outstanding performance and partnerships from the Texas Economic Development Council.

This recognition was accepted by Marlene Phillips, NCTC Director of Grants, Gaylynn Burris, Mayor of Bowie and Janis Crawley, EDC Executive Director during a breakfast award presentation at the TEDC summer conference.

Merits for the award were based on innovativeness, transferability, community commitment and leverage, measured objectives and secondary benefits.  The innovativeness from the Type B Economic Development Board of Directors for construction of the NCTC Industrial Technology Center in partnership with the college, Bowie ISD welding program and the Texas Workforce board and the inclusion of the awardment of the High Demand Job Training grant and the Jobs & Education for Texans grant proved a true commitment by the community leaders, area educators and is measurable by student success.

Over the past 19 years, Montague County residents and high school students have been offered a higher education and certification courses provided by the vision of the Bowie Economic Development Team.  The construction of the NCTC Bowie Campus offers onsite and on-location job training and dual credit programs for the purpose of providing a better workforce within our community, county and state.

Better infrastructure and more jobs improves an area’s overall economy and raises the standard of living for its residents.  The investment in education is vital to future growth for our region.  The Bowie Economic Development Team is truly committed to job growth and sustainability and proudly places education as a top priority.  A well trained workforce is always a front-runner in business retention and attraction.
