The Bowie Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) has received the Economic Excellence award by Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) for the seventh consecutive year. The 2018 recipients were announced at TEDC’s Legislative Conference in Austin and BEDC was one of the 51 communities recognized, a record breaking number of recipients within our State this year. This award provides the information and documentation that Texas sets and delivers a high-standard of excellence in job recruitment, expansion and retention by recognizing programs that meet a desired threshold of professionalism.
Recipients qualify for recognition based on training taken by their governing board/council and the economic development director and professional staff. The board and staff place a high value on professional development and accountability and it is an honor to have these efforts acknowledged at the State level. “The acknowledgement of this award is a true testament of the integrity of our board members and shows their commitment to our organization as team leaders and builders”, say executive director Janis Crawley.
TEDC is made up of nearly 850 members representing more than 500 public and private economic development organizations, including more than 350 cities. TEDC’s Economic Excellence Recognition program is one of the ways in which our organization honors the outstanding commitment to excellence of our communities and regions, their leaders and their economic development professionals have toward the professionalism of their economic development efforts,” said Carlton Schwab, President/CEO of TEDC.
BEDC was established in 1998 as a Type A Corporation by the voters and is supported by 1/2 cent sales tax revenues. The Bowie ED Coalition is made up of two Corporations both Type A and Type B.
